Satyagraha Movie Review :

Amitabh Bachchan plays role Dwarka Anand, a man who is a firm believer of truth and an inherent believer of society who wants his son to give back to society and the nation all that they have given him.

Ajay Devgn plays role of Manav Raghvendra. He represents shining India and is a brilliant telecommunication czar who uses the ways of the world to get what he wants.

Kareena Kapoor plays role of Yasmin Ahmed. She is a hard headed TV reporter out on the field and she digs deep and as an opinion.

Arjun Rampal plays role of a strong socially committed to become a politician while Manoj Bajpai plays role of a wily young politician who uses every means to break the system. He is the real threat to democracy.

The movie reflects the uprising of the middle class against a corrupt and unjust system that leaves it with no recourse but to form a spontaneous movement to challenge the status quo.

The story is all about a dynamic and ambitious young man who is poised to take the elevator of corporate success when a personal tragedy exposes him to the shocking consequences of corruption in this country. Joining hands with an idealistic old man, he ignites a people’s protest that soon escalates into a massive movement with a national resonance, battling politicians determined to crush and discredit him. However, when people’s raw and unbridled anger is unleashed, the unintended penalty could be horrifying by itself.

The 22-year-old victim and her colleague walked through the service track from Mahalaxmi station towards Shakti Mills around 5.30 pm for an assignment. The victim and her friend entered the mill compound from one of the two entry points. After entering the compound, the two started taking pictures of the deserted mill. Two of the five accused spotted them and approached the victim. They said that the compound was a restricted area and taking pictures required special permission. The two accused then took the victim inside the compound and started harassing her.

When her colleague protested, the accused slapped him several times and tied him to the branch of a tree. After securing her companion, the accused turned to the victim and threatened her with a broken alcohol bottle. They then went on to rape her in turns. After the monsters had raped the girl, they clicked her pictures on their phones and threatened to upload them on the Internet if she lodged a complaint against them.

Around 7 pm, the victim got up and helped release her colleague. They then called her office and informed them about the incident. The victim was bleeding profusely and was rushed to Jaslok Hospital by her colleague. The hospital authorities informed the NM Joshi police station about the incident around 8.30 pm. The police arrived at the hospital and recorded the statements of the victim and her colleague.

Tamil Nadu government has finally fixed the fares of the auto rickshaws in Chennai City. With a minimum fare of Rs 25 for the first 1.8 KM and Rs 12 per KM thereafter, and Night fare of 50% more than daytime fare, the 71,470 Autos in the city will mandatory to have meters fixed in them. Waiting charges would be Rs 3.50 for every 5 minutes and Rs 42/hr.

The new fare would come into force immediately , Auto drivers have time till September 15 to collect rate cards from the regional transport offices. And get their auto meters calibrated by October 15.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha also said her government will spend Rs 80 Crores to install GPS enabled meters with printer, that ensures the commuters get to pay exact fare, also the autos can be monitored. The new meters will also have a panic button, that the commuters can use if they see any danger. A press on the panic button will notify the police control room.The Permits of drivers will be cancelled and their vehicle seized if proper meter rates are not charged.

Drivers of the vehicles have to reset their meters by October 15, the official said.

New Auto Rickshaw Rates in Chennai :

Apart from this, the government has decided to Global Positioning System (GPS) based meters on all autos in Chennai. Government will take care of all charges for installing.

Government has also said that license of Auto Driver who violate this new rate rule will be cancelled. A common complaint phone number will be displayed in all autos for registering complaints.

In a major setback to the progressive movement in Maharashtra, leading anti-superstition activist Narendra Dabholkar was shot dead by two unidentified assailants. The incident took place while he was out on a morning walk on Tuesday.

Known for his over two-decade long campaign against outdated and inhuman social practices, Dabholkar was currently engaged in mobilising public opinion and holding discussions with Maharashtra Government for passing an ‘anti-superstition and black magic’ law in the State legislature, opposed by certain sections of the society, including the Warkari sect.

The 69-year-old Dabholkar, who headed the ‘Andhashraddha Nirluman Samiti’ (anti-superstition movement), was out for a morning walk when two motorcycle-borne unidentified assailants fired two bullets from close range into his head from behind, police said quoting an eyewitness.

The offence took place on the bridge near Omkareshwar Temple in the city in the vicinity of ‘Sadhana’ magazine, which Dabholkar edited to propagate progressive thought to change social mindset.

Police said Dabholkar, who lay in a pool of blood on the bridge, was identified by a photo in his wallet and a cheque in the name of the Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti (ANS). He was taken to Sassoon Hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

Four bullets were fired at the activist out of whom two were lodged in his head, police added.

For Dabholkar, who hailed from Satara, spreading scientific temper and eradicating superstitions and undesirable rituals in the society was a lifelong mission which he carried with zest and rational thought, notwithstanding resistance from retrograde elements.

Some 1,800 Indians, want to settle down on the Red Planet permanently and several of them are from Bangalore, according to Aashima Dogra, spokesperson of the Netherlands-based Mars One, which is planning a one-way human mission to Mars in 2022.

Mars One, founded in 2011, is a not-for-profit organization which aims to establish a permanent human settlement on Mars in 2023. It intends to fund the Endeavour by televising every aspect of the mission, from launch to landing to living on Mars.

The number of Indians expressing a desire to make Mars their permanent home is rapidly increasing. Dogra told TOI that while on May 6 the Mars One website showed the Indian count at a mere five, the number has rocketed to nearly 1,800 over the last three months.

The team of settlers will be selected from applicants registered on the company's website, and a $7 fee is the only investment involved as of now. Anyone above 18 can apply. So far some 100,00 people have applied and 30,000 are from the US.

Amulya Nidhi Rastogi, a third-year mechanical engineering student of Maharishi Dayanand College, wasn't too distraught about the prospect of going without kin either. The 20-year-old, said, he "wanted to experience something beyond earth and I think Mars is the first step in this direction. I am confident of settling down on Mars permanently as I have the mental stability."

About being separated from the family — who are supporting his plan — he said, "I do not think that will be much of a problem because there will be facilities for video chatting. Yes, I agree it will be disturbing for a while, but I will get used to it."

Rastogi is confident about passing the isolation test, part of the selection process which consists of four rounds, the first of which will be completed by this year-end. The final will be in 2014.

Those selected will undergo eight years of intensive training.

The current plan envisages the start of crew training in 2015, launching of two rovers in 2018, followed by an all-cargo mission in 2020 and the first one-way human flight in 2022. Mars One is in the process of evaluating various rockets.

Their website claims that the company intends to provide settlers with water, food and oxygen by mining resources from Mars' soil and atmosphere and that all components required to complete the mission can currently be built by existing suppliers.
