Songkran 2013 - สงกรานต์ - Happy Songkran Day Wishes and Celebrations Thai New Year Water Festival 2013 Buddhist Temple

Songkran festival (Thai: สงกรานต์ ) is celebrated in Thailand as the traditional New Year’s Day from 13 to 16 April. It coincides with the New Year of many calendars of South and Southeast Asia.

The date of the festival was originally set by astrological calculation, but it is now fixed.

The most obvious celebration of Songkran is the throwing of water.

During this festival people of Buddhist origin may also go to a wat (Buddhist monastery) to pray and give food to monks.

The traditional greeting is “สวัสดีปีใหม่” (sawatdi pi mai) which basically means “Happy New Year”.

However, most people use the greeting “สุขสันต์วันสงกรานต์” (suk san wan songkran) which means “Happy Songkran Day”.
