The crew members of the Pratbiha Cauvery were collected this morning after they spent the night trapped on the ship which had been anchored near the Chennai port but was cut loose during the gales that preceded Cyclone Nilam’s landfall last evening. Rescue operations were suspended at dusk on account of bad weather.
On Wednesday afternoon, the captain of the ship had warned the 37 people on board that the ship could sink after it ran aground near Chennai’s Marina beach. 17 members then jumped into a life boat which capsized in the choppy waters. One person died, and by last night, 16 had reached the shore, with help from local fishermen. They were rushed to hospital.

Official Interview With Miss INDIA
Prachi Mishra was working as a Portfolio Manager with Standard Chartered Bank when life suddenly took a U-turn, and she was honoured with the dazzling Miss India crown. From a simple girl, she emerged as a woman of substance by clinching the Ponds Femina Miss India Earth 2012 title. After months of tremendous hard work and preparation, she is now geared up to achieve yet another milestone, the Miss Earth 2012 pageant!
In an exclusive interview with The Times of India, she talks her life post Miss India, her preparation for the forthcoming pageant and her future plans. Excerpts below...
First, Miss India 2012 and now, Miss Earth 2012...quite a leap in short time. How has the experience been so far?
It has been a wonderful experience! There are lots of good memories, hard work, love and good wishes. Yes, my life has changed in a very short span of time. I am thankful to God for everything. I believe in him and in myself that I will do well at the international pageant too! It is an extremely proud feeling when you are representing your country and your culture. This whole journey is like a fairy tale - beautiful, adventurous and amazing!
What does the Miss Earth title mean to you?
To me, it means that I get to live my dream, my dream of being an international ambassador of environment. I wish to use this platform to educate people and spread awareness about the importance of saving the earth. I want to tell the world about people in our country who never had electricity and use kerosene lamps and fire wood for survival. I believe in myself and I know this title will provide me the right platform to spread the message of saving the planet.
How has been the preparation so far? So fat, it has been really good and tough! For fitness, I go for running every evening for an hour. For my talent round, I practise Kathak for 3 hours every day. In terms of diet, I follow the chart suggested by my dietician. To follow a specific diet, one has to sacrifice a lot on taste but then the results are brilliant. My body is in shape, my skin glows more and I feel charged up and filled with positive energy.
You'll be performing classical Kathak dance during the talent round at the pageant and you're taking professional classes for that. Have you trained in classical dance earlier as well? I have been trained in Bharatnatyam for 4 years and Kathak for one year. I am really working hard for my talent round because I want to leave an impact on the audience in Manila. I want them to scream 'Once More' for me!
Nicole Faria was the first Indian woman to win Miss Earth in 2010. How do you plan to clinch the title once again for India? By giving my 100 per cent! Nicole has an amazing personality, and she proved herself. Now it's my turn to give my best and bring back the crown. I don't have a master plan in mind and for me it's not at all about winning or losing. It's about how much effort I am putting in at the end of the day. I believe in karma, God is with me, all my well wishers want me to win and the most important thing is that I know I will win! May god bless me :-)
Your co-winners, Vanya Mishra and Rochelle Maria Rao, recently got back from their respective pageants. Has their experience helped you prepare better for your pageant? Undoubtedly yes! Their experience has been of great help. They know my strengths and weaknesses, and are able to guide me accordingly. Especially Rochelle, she is like a mother when it comes to guiding some one. She keeps telling me what to do and what not to do. I feel really happy and blessed to have such sweet and caring Co-Miss Indias.
What all sub-titles are you aiming to win? Miss Photogenic, Miss Eco Beauty, Miss Congeniality and best performance in talent round! It might sound a little greedy but I have a feeling that I'll actually get these subtitles.
Who are you wearing in the finale round? I am wearing a gown designed by Rakesh Agarwal.
What do you think sets you apart from the other girls in the competition? I never compare myself with others, especially during pageants because it brings in negative feelings such as insecurity, lack of confidence. It's best to be yourself, believe in yourself and work hard. Hard work never goes waste! The only thought I have during my pageant days is that I'm never going to get these days back so I should enjoy every bit of it. I believe this attitude sets me apart from the other girls.
How confident are you of winning the Miss Earth 2012 title? I am very confident because I believe in the secret! All I know is that what I think is what I reflect. So, I am completely positive about my pageant. I have worked hard and given my 100 per cent preparing for it and have lots of best wishes with me. With all this and by the grace of God I will win! Amen.
Any plans to move to Bollywood after Miss Earth? Right now the only thing I can think of is the Miss Earth crown and hopefully this victory will bring many more opportunities. So, I am waiting to explore those opportunities and then decide and choose the best among them.
Your favourite Bollywood actor? Sharing screen with Mr Amitabh Bachchan will be 'a dream come true' for me! I would love to be a part of his movie. I'd feel blessed to share the screen with the legendary actor.
What do you wish to take back from your experience in Manila? I wish to take back a bunch of memories. Meeting other national winners representing different countries and cultures, knowing more about them and sharing my own experiences with them, I am looking forward to all of that.
Any closing thoughts or message to your fans?
I believe in living life to the fullest. Enjoy very moment and make the best use of it! Karma is the only key to success!
