   Ruqayyah Boyer (Dutch رقية born April 28, 1992) is a Dutch-Guyanese model, singer, actress, dancer, poet and current title holder of Miss Guyana Universe. She will be representing Guyana in Las Vegas in December 2012. She is also known as "Petra".
   

   Early life

   This 22 year old is an amalgam of International identities, having lived in three countries; Suriname, Canada & Guyana. This makes this Bilingual young woman is an aspiring Ambassador, with a passion for Global Affairs & Diplomacy. Multi-talented with a sharp wit & a colossal compassion for all humanity, Ruqayyah lived in Canada for a few years before migrating to Guyana. She considers herself a true West Indian by heart and says that music & spoken word are her first language. Her personal heroes are the likes of The Legendary Bob Marley,Oprah Winfrey, Alicia Keys, Kahlil Ghibran Lauren Hill, Kimberly Elise. Her dream destination is Africa.
   As mentioned earlier, she is an actress. In the Guyanese play “To Sir With Love”, she played the role of Lulu. "To Sir With Love" is a 1967 British drama film starring Sidney Poitier that deals with social and racial issues in an inner city school. It is based on the semi-autobiographical novel "To Sir With Love" by E. R. Braithwaite. James Clavell both directed and wrote the film's screenplay.
   

   Miss Guyana 2012

   Boyer has been crowned Miss Universe Guyana 2012 by Leila Lopes (Miss Universe 2011 winner) who was a special guest at the Miss Universe Guyana 2012 beauty pageant. It was held at the Princess Hotel on Saturday night of September 14, 2012 and concluded minutes after midnight on Sunday, September 15, 2012.
   Boyer, minutes after midnight on Sunday, September 15, 2012 captured the Miss Guyana Universe following the judges’ final decision. Boyer was asked who was her role model and why during the Question & Answer segment. In her response she said, her role model was the Miss Universe 2011 Lelia Lopes. According to her it was her dream to become Miss Guyana Universe 2012 and her aspiration was to follow in the same footsteps as Lopes. First runner-up was Nikita Barker; second runner-up was Canadian Guyanese Sadhna Yunus & in third place was Nikesha Alexander.
   The tenth edition of the Miss Guyana Universe Pageant began on Sunday September 9 at the Hotel Tower Poolside, where 11 of 13 beautiful and intelligent young ladies were introduced to potential sponsors. The cocktail reception marked 10 years that the competition is being organised by local franchise holder McNeal Enterprise, the first being in 2002, when Mia Rahaman won from a strong field. This year’s Franchise holder, Odinga Lumumba disclosed that if a young lady gains a position between first and tenth in the International Miss Universe they will receive US$25,000 which is quite an incentive for the young ladies to perform. Soca artist Kes who made a special appearance serenaded the contestants’ guest and contestants with a performance on Saturday night. The event was also graced with the presence of Guyana; President Donald Ramotar and the First Lady, Deolatchmie Ramotar.
