Karbonn Champions League (CL) T20 2013: All Teams and Squads

Karbonn Champions League 2013 is all set for its 5th edition which is to be played in India from September 17 to October 6.

Karbonn Champions League (CL) T20 2013: All Teams and Squads have been announced.

World’s top 12 T-20 players, who were in big demand by multiple teams as they play for all those teams in their respective tournaments.

Explaining the process to decide, which teams these players would represent, Karbonn CL T20 Governing Council member and Director of Legal and Business Affairs, Dean Kino, said:

“Players who were named by more than one team were asked to select which team they were going to play for. Teams were then allowed to replace any player that withdrew from their squad and elected to play for another side.

“CLT20 regulations state that when a player elects to play for their ‘away’ team, that team must pay the ‘home’ team $150,000 compensation per player. A ‘home’ team is classified as a team from the country a player is eligible to represent in international cricket.

“This payment is applicable for 10 of the 12 players that were eligible for more than one team. The exceptions are Kumar Sangakkara, who will be representing Kandurata Maroons, which is classified as his home team, and Thisara Perera, who qualified for the Brisbane Heat and Hyderabad Sunrisers, neither of which is classified as his home team.”

India beat Sri Lanka by one wicket to win the Caribbean tri-series final at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad on July 11, 2013.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni smashed 16 runs in the last over to help India win the Tri Nation series.Needing 15 runs of the last over, Dhoni whacked Shaminda Eranga for a six, four and a six to give India its seventh win over Sri Lanka in nine matches.

Dhoni’s knock of 45 from 52 balls guided India to the 202-run target in 49.4 overs. Sri Lanka were bowled out for 201 in 48.5 overs after Dhoni won the toss and sent them into bat.

India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni becomes the highest ranked among the Indian atheletes in earnings of USD 31.5 million (approx Rs 180 crores).

Dhoni 16th on Forbes’ List of Highest-Paid Athletes.

The only other Indian sportsman in the list is Sachin Tendulkar, he is ranked 31st with a total annual earning of USD 22 million (Rs 125 crores).

Golfer Tiger Woods is the highest paid athlete, according to Forbes.

31-year-old Dhoni moved up 15 positions this year. In 2012, he was placed at 31st position.

Other prominent sportsmen ranked way behind behind Dhoni are Fernando Alonso (19th), Lewis Hamilton (26th), Novak Djokovic (28th), Rafael Nadal (30th) and Usain Bolt (40th).

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni seemed to have lost his voice when asked by the media persons on his views on the issue of spot-fixing in IPL while addressing a press conference in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Dhoni was speaking to media before the Indian team leaves for England to participate in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.

On being asked why he was being silent on the biggest crisis that has hit Team India since the fixing revelations of 2000, Dhoni again remained silent.

However, he spoke at length on the team composition and the chances of the Indian team of winning the Champions trophy.

“We have a balance side for the Champions Trophy. I think we have a good opportunity to win the champions trophy,” he said.

The moment of embarrassment for Srinivasan came when anchor Ravi Shastri introduced him to the crowd at the prize distribution ceremony.

Srinivasan, however, looked unfazed.

The BCCI chief also put an end to speculation on whether he would hand the IPL trophy to the winners, by doing the honours before the packed Eden Gardens.

Earlier Sunday, Srinivasan had refused to step down, saying, "I will not shirk my duty... the BCCI will act without fear or favour to investigate, and if the circumstances so warrant punish any player, match official, team management or franchise that have breached BCCI or IPL regulations."

Saying the media has been "unfair" in its attack, Srinivasan termed as untrue media reports of a "revolt in the BCCI" and said there was unity in the board.

"I have not been asked by anybody to resign, to the contrary, my support is complete and I refuse to yield to unfair and motivated attacks. I intend to continue my duties as president of the BCCI," Srinivasan said.

The Finals of Pepsi IPL 2013 will take place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday, 26th May 2013 between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.

First qualifier of Season 6 of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2013),  Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 48 Runs to become the first team to reach finals of Pepsi IPL 2013.

Winning the toss, Chennai Super Kings elected to bat first. Michael Hussey and Suresh Raina played brilliantly scoring unbeaten 86 and 82 respectively to help the team reach a score of 192/1 in 20 overs.

For Mumbai Indians, Kieron Pollard was the lone wicket taker.

In reply, Mumbai Indians Aditya Tare early but Dwayne Smith played a good innings scoring 68 of 28 balls but once he was dismissed by Jadeja, Mumbai Indians kept on loosing wickets and in the end got all out for 144 runs in 18.4 overs.

For Chennai Super Kings, Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo took three wickets, Mohit Sharma took two wickets while Albie Mokel and Chris Morris took one wicket each.

The ongoing saga of spot-fixing in IPL is widening and now there are fears that it may sweep the top brass of the BCCI after the name of board president N Srinivasan’s son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan cropped up on Wednesday during Mumbai Police’s investigation into the case.

The Mumbai police has said that they will question BCCI President N Srinivasan’s son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan in connection with the betting racket in which actor Vindoo Dara Singh was arrested yesterday.

Gurunath was allegedly in constant touch with Vindoo and it is because of this constant contact that the police decided to call him in for questioning.

Gurunath Meiyappan is married to Srinivasan’s daughter Rupa who is the director of India Cements – the company that owns IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings and lists Srinivasan as its Vice Chairman and Managing Director. Gurunath Meiyappan is also the Team Principal and CEO of Chennai Super Kings.

Gurunath who is in his late 30s, has three children with Srinivasan’s daughter Rupa.

Gurunath hails from an affluent South Indian family that owns AVM – a high-profile film and TV serial production house of South India. He is the son of AVM Balasubramanian who is the brother of AVM Saravanan.

Apart from that, Gurunath has played Golf and motor racing at competitive levels. He has won the Palani Hills Open amateur golf tournament multiple times and has competed in Formula Asia.

The involvement of Gurunath in the spot-fixing scandal emerged after the arrest of Vindoo Dara Singh on Tuesday. Vindoo reportedly placed several bets on behalf of Gurunath. Earlier on Wednesday, reports emerged that Vindoo had made several calls to a Chennai number and admitted to being in touch with a relative of the CSK franchise owner.

Police sources, however, say there is no evidence of spot-fixing against Gurunath, but only of heavy betting, which is illegal.

Delhi police which busted a spot fixing racket in the Indian Premier League. The Delhi police has been on the trail of this operation since the past 20 days and acting on tip offs from the Intelligence Bureau (Crime Wing), they were able to bust this racket.
 

Sources in the department tell us that the matter is under investigation, but there is prima facie evidence to show that these players (Sreesanth, Ajith Chandila and Ankit) who have been arrested were involved. The call records are a crucial piece of evidence for the Delhi police and say that most of the spot fixing was done on phone. We are yet to find out the number of matches in which there has been spot fixing. However we are confident and sure that the syndicate which orchestrated this was from Bombay.
 

In all we suspect that there are over 15 bookies involved in this case, Delhi police sources say. While seven have been arrested already, we are on the look out for more of them who are from the neighbouring states. It has a nation wide ramification and the investigation could well lead to more names.
 

The first time that the crime wing of the Intelligence Bureau put out an alert regarding spot fixing in the IPL was during the Chinnaswamy stadium blasts. The alert was shared with the then Home MInister, Dr V S Acharya who had confirmed that there was spot fixing and the blasts were a result of the same.
 

Although the Bangalore police did not probe that angle into the case, there was a lot of data that was gathered which suggested massive betting during the IPL. Most of the spot fixing takes place in Bombay as the biggest syndicate exists over there. Bookies have been in touch with players who are vulnerable and seek out information for a certain sum of money.
 

Delhi police sources say that in this particular case there were specific inputs and information regarding the team and other details had been allegedly shared. In addition to this there has also been some information which suggests that the players under the scanner had facilitated the bookies during the games that they played in. The fact is that we have been on their trail for almost a month now and the details do suggest a prima facie case.
 

The Delhi police say that they are seeking the co-opperation of the Rajasthan Royals, the team that these players belong to. The bookies who have been picked up are being questioned about the other players that are involved in this betting racket and we belieive that there are more involved. We focused on these players since the input and alerts were specific to them.
 

Once again Cricket’s Cash Rich Tournament Indian Premier League (Season 6) is in news for spot fixing.

Today Delhi Police arrested Star Cricketer S. Sreesanth along with two of his other team mates of IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals from Mumbai’s Trident Hotel on charges of spot fixing in IPL 2013 Matches.

Then names of two other players are Ankit Chavan and Ajit Chandilia.

According to latest reports on TV channels like Aaj Tak, NDTV, ABP Star News, Zee News, etc along with these three players of Rajasthan Royals, seven bookies including three from Delhi have also been arrested.

Police sources said the players have been accused of spot-fixing in two matches played by Rajasthan Royals team on 9th May against Kings XI Punjab and yesterday’s match against Mumbai Indians.

On 9th May 2013, in Match 55 of IPL 2013, Rajasthan Royals beat Kings XI Punjab by 8 Wickets while on 15th May 2013, in Match 66 of IPL 2013, Mumbai Indians beat Rajasthan Royals by 7 Runs.

The Rajasthan Royals IPL franchise is co-owned by Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty are playing well in IPL 2013 and have qualified for the IPL 2013 playoffs.

For those who dont know about Spot Fixing, Spot fixing is the manipulation of a particular ball or wicket in a cricket tournament, which is then betted upon.

Betting on sports is illegal in India but is allegedly big business in the IPL and is run by underground syndicates in Mumbai and other parts of the country. Sources said bookies often operate out of vehicles now to avoid detection.

Previously in IPL 2012, five players were five players namely Mohnish Mishra, Abhinav Bali, TP Sudhindra, Amit Yadav and Shalabh Shrivastava were suspended by the IPL governing council after the Indian television exposed the spot fixing scandals which was evident in the first class matches in Indian cricket.

Today, Yusuf Pathan became the first batsman to be given out for obstructing the field in Twenty20 cricket while playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in match no. 65 of Pepsi IPL 2013 against Pune Warriors India (PWI).

He also became the sixth cricketer in the overall history of the game. So far, Test cricket has seen only one batsman, Briton Len Hutton, getting out in that fashion while four players so far have been ruled out in the ODIs for obstructing the field.

The match was in tense situation when the incident happened. After managing to negotiate a yorker from Wayne Parnell, Yusuf Pathan attempted a single. As he ran, the bowler tried to get close to the ball but Pathan pushed the ball with his foot, causing obstruction in the field.


The matter was referred to third umpire and he was declared out. His dismissal in the 18th over became the turning point of the game as Kolkata Knight Riders did not have the batsmen to score required 23 runs from 13 balls after that and they lost the match by 7 runs and went out of IPL 2013 Playoffs contention.

Tamil Nadu Cricket Association has received a letter from the Tamil Nadu government cancelling the structural stability certificate for 9 stands of MA Chidambaram," a TNCA source told NDTV.

"TN government says there is a difference of nomenclature between the plan submitted to the corporation and the numbering of stands in the stadium, which means Tuesday's match at the stadium is doubtful," the source added.

However, the Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear the plea of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association restraining Chennai corporation to seal three stands in the stadium ahead of an IPL match on Tuesday.

A bench of justices B S Chauhan and Dipak Misra agreed to give an urgent hearing to the Association's plea in view of the IPL match.

TNCA has challenged Chennai Corporation's action of sealing three stands -- I, J and K on the grounds that they had been constructed without prior permission from the authorities concerned.

Seeking de-sealing of three stands, TNCA submitted that the sealed stands were part of renovation work going on in the stadium and six stands have already been allowed by the Corporation.

It also submitted that stands be de-sealed as the tickets have already been sold for Tuesday's IPL match.

On Sunday, the Chennai Corporation sealed the three stands in the stadium, saying they were yet to get planning permission and building approval.

The sealing came after the Supreme Court stayed the February 6 order of the Madras High Court.

The high court had set aside orders of the Tamil Nadu Housing and Urban Development Department, Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority, the Chennai Corporation and the Additional Commissioner of Police, in 2011 and 2012 which restrained TNCA from using the reconstructed stands in the stadium.
